Multimedia Marking Period Three

Assignment #23

Assignment 23 was one of the last SketchUp assignments in this class, and definitely the most tedious, having to constantly measure, remeasure, resize and recolor different sections of the house, especially around corners and on "faces." Just making the house itself was the hardest part, with all these shapes constantly stacking ontop of one another, but this might just have been part of my laziness. If I had taken my time and not rushed to finish this assignment in time, the sides of the house might be more detailed.

Assignment #24

Assignment 24 had me taking a 2-D picture of the gingerbread house I made in the assignment before, and making it appear 3-D, with the help of 3-D glasses, of course. To do this, you simply isolate the house from the background, duplicate the layer which contains the house, and change the colors of the house, with one layer just being red, and the other layer not having the red color. Lastly, I changed the background layer to a simple, snowy background.

Assignment #25

With the start of the third marking period, the first assignment I was tasked with was animation. This animation, in particular, was a series of images played one after the other, in rapid, repeating succession, with the start of the animation having the button without the glow, the middle of the animation with the glow on, and the end of the animation without the glow, once again. The extension .gif stands for the Graphics Interchange Format, and is an image format that was introduced in 1987, and has still been in use to this day, due to its wide support and portability, as well as the fact that it can be used for short animations and videos.

Assignment #26

Assignment 26 was my last assignment of the first term, and it is made to look like a room, or shelf, that is used to display things of importance. A lot of planning went into making this assignment, because the beginning rectangle must be a very specific size, to fit the other rectangles and the actual displayed images as well. The numerous gradients in specific places gives the spectator the illusion that this is a three dimensional room, even though this image was name in a two dimensional plane. The ceiling is also lined with three ovals, that of which, with the help of a transparent trapezoid and transparent circle, give the illusion that light is being shined down upon these three images.

Multimedia Marking Period Two

Assignment #11

Assignment Eleven was not hard, by any means necessary, and this was due to the website that had allowed me to redo the photo-fill text. I had made a gradient of my liking out of black, grey and white stripes, and was able to do so because of the gradient editing I had learned a few assignments back. Although not clearly visible, the photo-filled text is actually two chess pieces, two Knights, for that matter, and are obviously on opposing teams.

Assignment #12

Like the assignment above, Assignment Twelve was not relatively hard, but mostly tedious. This assignment required for me to change the texture of a suit to something that I wanted; in this case, snow crystals. Alike the photo-fill text, this assignment was mostly tweaking with layers, creating clipping layers, and changing the opacity of the texture to appear more realistic.

Assignment #13

Like previous assignments, Assignment Thirteen was very layer-heavy, calling for a large amount of editing, as well as deleting unneeded parts of pictures and moving layers around. Finding the perfect images and moving them into my desired position was quite laborious, but unfortunately for me, the final result isn't exactly appealing to the eye.

Assignment #14

A common trend that seems to be occurring within these assignments is that many, if not all of them, have something to do with layers. Merging layers, filling layers, changing and editing layer styles, layers, layers, layers! I am actually quite fond of this assignment, with Halloween right around the corner, it was nice to make something that was not only seasonal, but also appealing to the eye.

Assignment #15 A & B

Both assignments A and B were the same thing, but with slight changes in the flag, as well as the photo behind the flag. The logic behind this assignment was to learn how the displacement tool works, and what it does is warps the picture so that the picture behind it and the displaced layer appear as one, and the displaced layers warps in such a way that it conforms with or against the photo. In Assignment A, the photo is clearly displaced, and the flag looks it was pressed against a brick wall. However, in Assignment B, because the photo behind the flag layer was not only my face, the displacement is not very noticeable.

Assignment #16

Assignment 16 was another one of my favorite assignments, because the outcome was actually quite desirable. Motion blurring is a filter that allows you to blur a photo, or in this case, parts of the photo, to make it look like the photo, or in this case, swordsman, is moving. Although the assignment just required me to change a filter and brush in the parts of the image where I didn't want it to be blurred, I still really like the outcome.

Assignment #17

Assignment 17 was ever so slightly more tedious, as the main step to be followed was coloring in the chess piece with a transparent red, which while using Quick Mask, determined what would be painted and what wouldn't be. The tedious part was erasing the parts where the red brush strayed too far from the chess piece itself. The point of the assignment was to find a way to quicken the way you could make a selection, but I still feel Magnetic Lasso is ever so slightly faster.

Assignment #18

Assignment 18 was supposed to combine the skills I used from Assignments 16 and 17, but I felt I was only using skills from 16, as the glow was due entirely to the fact that there was a blur applied, then a blending mode after. The only thing even remotely related to Assignment 17 was the creation of a mask, not a Quick Mask. I also dislike the fact that the eyes cannot be glowing, and the skin had too much glow to it.

Assignment #19

With Assignment 19 comes the introduction of Adobe Illustrator, a program that allows for people to create images of everyday things using simple shapes and colors. In this instance, the item created was a small flash drive with my name on it. However, alike past assignments, all that was required for this assignment was simple instruction-following skills.

Assignment #20

Assignment 20 was the last assignment of the second Marking Period, making it the official test. This assignment was one of, if not the, longest assignments, and as a test, it was quite hard, given the fact that it was the second assignment using Adobe Illustrator. This assignment had me changing and rearranging rectangles, circles, gradients, and the such.

Assignment #21 A-C

Assignment 21 was a trio of assignments that had introduced the class and I to a new program named "Adobe SketchUp," and for a free piece of software, it seems to have its uses. Assignment Part A simply had me creating 2 dimensional shapes, either using the predesignated tools on the tool bar, or the line tool.

Part B simply had me use another tool on the tool bar that allows me to change a two dimensional shape into a three dimensional shape, simply with a click and drag.
